July 2nd 1954.
Dear Martin,
I have been correcting the proofs of the carols, and I understand you have had your set to read too. I have read yours as well as mine. I have found one or two misprints, as doubtless you have. Will you add pace indications and metronome marks for yours? Or shall I take them out of mine? We must both do the same. I hope you will read my proofs as well as your own: some of mine are in an unholy mess, largely my copyist’s fault, but partly mine for not checking him carefully enough. Alan Frank wants a preface, and I send a draft for your approval. We shall of course, both have to sign it.
Our love to Joan,
yours,
RVW1
This is very business like, so in a rubric I record that I send my love to Martin, too. U.2
