Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Martin Shaw
Letter No.: VWL4514
[1943]
Dear Martin
Forgive war time paper.
You know I can’t read a score, so I had to wait for leisure to strum your new tune through on the pfte. I like the 1st. 2 movements immensely. I have not yet quite cottoned on to the Final – but that will probably come when I hear it played on Flute & Pianoforte (not on the hooter & sewing machine please).1
The OUP have done well for us this year.
My love to Joan & all yours
