I believe you are in touch with Ian Whyte – I hear (confidentially) that the Carnegie¹ people are willing to renew his maintenance grant, if his scholarship at the RCM² is renewed. C^d you tell me all you know about him, especially
(a) whether he is likely to get his scholarship renewed
(b) whether he is well enough to continue there
(c) whether he lives in London & whether that is good for him
(d) If he is doing any remunerative work & if not whether it w^d not be good for him to get some?
