Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Katharine Thomson
Letter No.: VWL2308
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
17th July, 1947.
Dear Mrs. Thomson,
Many thanks for your letter and the programme. I think it is very doubtful whether I can come, but I will note the date in case it is possible. Anyway, I shall be with you in spirit.
As regards Prometheus, I reluctantly have to say ‘no’, as I have so many things that I must finish and which will take me, I should think, at least three years.1
Yours sincerely,
R. Vaughan Williams
1. Mrs Thomson had asked VW to write incidental music to Aeschylus’ tragedy Prometheus Bound to be performed in a translation by her husband George Thomson, Professor of Greek at Birmingham University.
