Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to K.J. Burrell
Letter No.: VWL4727
From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.
March 28th 1958.
Dear Mr Burrell1
I think the best thing to do is to go on writing, and getting as many people as you can to write to the B.B.C. and the gramophone companies. I believe the BBC are susceptable2 to listener’s3 letters. I think there was some effect from the Holst concert which Sir Adrian conducted two years ago, particularly among the young people. Please go on, as hard as you can with your demands.
Yours sincerely,
R Vaughan Williams

General Notes:
Typewritten, signed. From another letter from the same correspondent to Adrian Boult (British Library MS Mus 1714/1/31, f. 35) it appears that the correspondent was lobbying for more of Holst’s music to be recorded and broadcast.
