Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to John Ireland

Letter No.: VWL2027

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

Feb 7 1946

Dear John

That is a fine work – one of your best – & it is the best [of] you all the way through – so many works by most composers only transcend themselves & thereby become their real selves in patches – but this seems to me to be your real self all through.1
I think they played it well – & the audience were evidently impressed
Yrs
