1. VW had conducted the Sea Symphony in Manchester on Thursday the 20th (leaving Barbirolli to conduct the Oboe Concerto. From there he travelled to Sheffield to condct the Sea Symphony again on Saturday the 22nd (Halle Orchestra, Isobel Baillie and Denis Dowling performed for both events).
