Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to John Barbirolli
Letter No.: VWL2609
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
Jan 10 [1953]
Dear John
Thank you so much for your telegram.
The only thing that worries me is the wind machine – the only really most satisfactory one was that used for recording the actual film music at H.M.V. Abbey Road – I suppose we could not borrow that?
Our love to you both – we shall be at the Grand Sunday night.
Yrs

General Notes:
The handwriting looks like ‘June’ but it must be January just before the first performance of Sinfonia Antartica on the 14th. Against this is the fact that VW was writing on a Saturday and the last sentence doesn’t read as if he was announcing an arrival the next day.
