Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Joan Western
Letter No.: VWL272
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
March 16 [1935]
Dear Mrs Western
First I want to say how splendid it is of you to have given that magnificent donation.1
Secondly I enclose Mr Forty’s answer to my letter.
Thirdly I will come to the Committee on Monday 25th if I possibly can. I think we ought to accept Masefield’s offer – but I suppose we must wait for a committee meeting.
I have not been able to get in touch with the R.C.M Union yet but could you write to, or go to see Miss Darnell at the R.C.M?
We have missed their annual report and I think the best thing to do now is to get their list of members with addresses. We ought also (perhaps you have already done so) get names & addresses of all the Societies and from Ibbs & Tillet – and also prepare lists ourselves – I will start making a list of my own acquaintance.
Fox Strangways writes that we are too late for the present number of Music & Letters, but offers us the July number – I hope by that time our fund will be closed.
Mrs Seligman will allow leaflets to be put into her Savitri programmes2 Will you kindly get into touch with her. Her address is Mrs Richard Seligman, Lincoln House, Park Side, Wimbledon Common – S.W.19 Telephone Wimbledon 1043
Yrs sincerely
R. Vaughan Williams
