[July, 1956]
My dear Joan,
May I have an old friend’s special privilege and command you and Martin to go and convalesce together when they let you out of hospital? With my particular love and admiration to you both,
Please let me – my PRS account is simply bulging with ill gotten wealth – as I feel so badly that others who have done so much finer with their musical lives should ease my conscience & help me bear my burden as Ford says to Falstaff I think or ought to be the other way around.
all love Ralph
