The White Gates
Sunday [July 1944]
My most beloved Jean
What a wonderful scheme – I hold my thumbs for you today – I wish it was better – but its not for want of love or trying – About Tuesday Aug 8th – I suggest you coming 2.7. from Waterloo to Dorking North – & a car shall meet you there – & then we will run through & at 5.30 play it over – & if I may ask about 6 people to hear it I should be very grateful – if you are sure you & the rest of the 4tet do not mind1
I have written to Gerald – of course I’d love to have him2
all my love
Uncle Ralph
I do hope you are better
P.S. & return by 7.18 train
1. To play through the quartet in A minor which VW had written for Jean.
2. Presumably Gerald Finzi
