Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Isolde Menges

Letter No.: VWL5309

FROM R. VAUGHAN WILLIAMS,
THE WHITE GATES,
WESTCOTT ROAD,
DORKING.

[late August 1940]

Dear Isolde
I made so bold as to write to Sir Cyril Asquith asking that composers & executants should be placed on the list of releasable internees as well as musicologists. I have had a sympathetic reply – so I think the next thing to do is to call together some musicians (about 15) & discuss a policy & especially to draw up a list of interned musicians.
Could you come – Wednesday Sept 4 at 2.30 at the Academy of Music. Bring with you a list of musician-internees of which you are aware.
If you cannot come will you send me a list with all particulars so far as you can? I do hope you can come.
Yrs
R Vaughan Williams
