Dear Schwiller
I know very little about the figured bass & continuo question – I always follow my own instincts in Bach & Handel (& have got into fearful rows with the pianists).  But I think probably the bass was fuller if even when there are no figures.  Bach very seldom has figures – even where the bass obviously wants filling in.  But I should follow your musical intuition in the matter.
I’m sorry I destroyed all the Guggenheim correspondence when I had finished with them & cannot remember their address.  – You might try
