Xmas Day

Dear Foss

I agree to your proposals for the division of fees on ‘Job’.1
Now I want your advice as to my relationships with Mr Keynes and Mrs Raverat.2 I originally told Keynes to make his own arrangements with you – but apparently he has not done so.
Would this be possible even now?  It would be much more convenient to me.  I will send him the author’s shares on the fees already received which I suppose ought to be 25% for myself and 75% to be divided between the two authors – that is on the dramatic fees.
I will send him a proportion of my share of the dramatic fees – I suppose that 75% of my share ought to go to the two authors.  I do not think I owe them anything on concert – broadcasting – gramophone or hiring fees – What is your opinion on this?
Also ought the authors to have a share of my royalties on the sale of the copies and if so how much?  I shall be very glad to know what you think about all this.
Yours sincerely

R. Vaughan Williams

Thank you both so much for the Xmas card

1. Foss had written pointing out that no agreement existed between VW and Oxford University Press for Job, Catalogue of Works 1930/5, and setting out a proposed division of performing fees.
2. The scenario of Job was by Gwendolen Raverat, who also designed the scenery and costunes, and Geoffrey Keynes. See VWL923.
