Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Hubert Foss

Letter No.: VWL2495

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

October 14th 1952

My Dear Hubert

A personal thought from you is a better present than all the marble clocks and Purdoneums1 in the world. I cannot hang up anything so laudatory for my friends to see, so I shall keep it in a drawer, where I keep my other valuables.2
Yrs

My love (if I may be so bold) to Mrs Hubert.

2. Foss had written a sonnet to VW on his birthday and had had it calligraphically written out by Henry Ball and framed.
