Dear Herbert
I thought your broadcast1 was the best of its kind I have heard – & the way it worked up to “Nimrod” which apparently you were unaware of was most dramatic.

1. This was the second concert performance of the Symphony no.4, at 8.30 pm in Queen’s Hall on Wednesday 20th November, and broadcast on BBC National service. Boult conducted the BBC Orchestra. It was preceded at 8.15 by an introductory talk by Howells.
VW’s symphony opened the concert, then there were two cello concertos played by Casals, and Elgar’s Enigma Variations to close. VW was evidently at home, listening in.
