Dear Herbert
I hear from Gerald Finzi that you have his selection of I.G.’s songs – Could you let me have them with your comment as soon as possible – Also could you do your screed about the songs for Blom as I daresay Marion Scott has told you time presses.1

1. Finzi, Howard Ferguson and VW were preparing a selection of Ivor Gurney’s songs for publication. On 8th July AVW had written to Joy Finzi: ‘Ralph had a letter from Marian Scott. She has seen Ivor G. & finds him very ill – tho’ he may live some time he will not recover. If his consent or approval about publication is wanted R thinks no time should be lost. He is writing to M Scott – also to Foss who from M Scotts letter is ‘interested’ in the scheme for publishing the songs’. The screed was an article on Gurney for Music & Letters (of which Eric Blom was the editor) which appeared in the January 1938 issue.
