Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Herbert Byard
Letter No.: VWL3338
From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.
February 23rd 1958.
Dear Herbert,
It was wonderful of you to come to St John, and your comments and advice at rehearsal were very useful. I do believe that the performance was the best one we have given as yet.1
I think that the authorities are FOOLS not to have made you Professor, but I know that you will continue to stimulate music in Bristol as before.
Our love to you both,
yrs RVW
1. The performance had been on 15 February; see MS Mus. 162, f.28: White Horse Hotel, Dorking, Surrey. Please show Mr & Mrs Byard to a reserved pew, R Vaughan Williams
