10th August 1949
Dear Havergal Brian1
Thank you so much for your letter.
The very day it arrived I was occupied in making a Latin version of “Sancta Civitas”. Perhaps you do not remember that in very early days you helped me a lot with the score, for which I am very grateful.2
Yours sincerely
R. Vaughan Williams
