Dear Mr. Smith,
The incidental music which I wrote for “The Mayor of Casterbridge” has now been made into a Prelude “On an Old Carol Tune”, and has been performed over the wireless by the Bristol B.B.C., but no public performance has so far yet been given.
Thank you very much for your kind words about my new “Sinfonia”.1
Yours sincerely,
R Vaughan Williams
