Dear Child
I send my version of the proposed cuts in Act I for your approval. I hope they don’t make your words sound too illiterate – with these and one or two small cuts in other places we shall save 8 to 10 minutes which I hope will be enough.
It’s beastly work this tampering – and there’s some more for you to do!
I think the least trouble for you if I send them one by one.
(1) I send two now. (see music paper)
(2) 8 lines for Mary (ariosos) to take the place of ‘I know not love.’
The above is my permanent address,
Yr.
