Dear Foote
I have added a note to your proof of the vocal score about the instruments which are ad lib.¹
I think it is better put in a comprehensive note at the end because one has to say what has to be done if the instrument is omitted, especially in the case of the celesta which is essential in the “Nocturne”, and if absent must be substituted by piano-forte.
I think I ought to have certain pages of the vocal score back because there are several alterations I want to make, as you will see on the proof, which I return.
