THE LETTERS OF RALPH VAUGHAN WILLIAMS

Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Guthrie Foote (OUP)

Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Guthrie Foote (OUP)

Letter No.: VWL2178

The White Gates,
Dorking, Surrey.

24th January, 1951.

Dear Foote,

Thank you so much for being so quick over those errata in the S. O. L.1  Also many thanks for the copies of the Shakespeare songs.2
Have you no spare copies left of “Pilgrim’s Progress”, (not chorus copies). Or have you sent them all to Covent Garden? I could do with two or three sets as I am right out now.
As regards the pianoforte and strings version of S. O. L., Bernard Shore has ideas on the subject because he thinks that the string parts in the original version are too hard for a school orchestra. I think he is going to see you about it and I think the best way is for me to leave it entirely between you and him to settle.
Yrs

R. Vaughan Williams
