April 19 [1940s]
Dear Gillian
I have sent the songs & oboe piece to the Oxford Press and the scherzo to the Society for the Promotion of New Music. I hope something may result but we must not hope too much.1
I hope we shall meet one day?
Yours affectionately
R Vaughan Williams

General Notes:
Gillian Addis had apparently sent some compositions by her husband, Richard Addis, for VW to see if he could recommend them for publication or performance. Richard was killed in the war in 1944. Gillian was the daughter of Percy Dearmer, with whom VW collaborated on the English Hymnal and the Oxford Book of Carols.
