Dear Gerald
I entirely disagree about Boult’s B.P.1 I thought it noble and moving & tears were (literally) in my eyes at the end. Such a relief after a terribly jaunty performance under M.S.2 which I heard the other day. Even then it came out top.

1. i.e. Blest Pair of Sirens by Parry. The performance was broadcast on 29 September – the first day of the Third Programme – when Blest Pair of Sirens concluded the main evening concert, conducted by Boult. Serenade to Music preceded it, and there was a first performance of Britten’s Festival Overture and Bliss’s Music for Strings.
2. i.e. Malcolm Sargent.
