Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Gerald Finzi
Letter No.: VWL2410
The White Gates,
Dorking, Surrey.
22nd May, 1952.
Thank you very much for the part song, which I judge is all right now.**
The latest date for the “Elegy” in Oxford is the one you give me, June 20th. I have never heard from Bernard Rose when it is, and other people tell me the 19th.
The idea of stopping at Ashmansworth on the way back is very attractive. May I leave it vague for a bit until I know my plans better?
Thank you for the warning about stopping elsewhere.
Yrs

Gerald Finzi, Esq.,
Ashmansworth,
Newbury, Berks.
** P.S. and though I should have preferred to have the 2nd voice in [treble] cleff1 Basses are quite accustomed to singing [treble clef] – but Altos are not accustomed to singing [bass clef].
Just back from a fine time in France.
