Dec 10 [1940s?]
Dear Mr Cockshott
Thankyou for the ‘Holly & Ivy’ – I think your list of gramophone records very good1 – Though I think I shd like to add a few more both of the older & the younger school – Also I don’t think you mention the Enigma Variations – also some choral works – Elgar Gerontius, Parry ‘Blest Pair’, Stanford ‘Songs of the Fleet’ & ‘Revenge’, Holst “Hymn of Jesus” & Britten’s ‘Boy was born’ Ireland ‘These things shall be’ – what about some Grainger & ought not you to [be] in – & what about some Purcell & some madrigals?
I shall be free Jan 10, 11, & 12 & would gladly look at some of your work on one of those days
Yrs sincerely
R Vaughan Williams
P.S. choral music
Holst’s “This have I done for my true love”
1. The purpose of the list is not clear – perhaps Cockshott compiled it for teaching his students.
