Dear Moore

Did Trevy¹ tell you that I wanted Blake or was it unconscious cerebration (I don’t mean that) which lead² you to send me the beautiful book which arrived this morning. It seems a sort of insult to write and thank you as that is what I am doing to such quantities of unangenehm people (I put that word in to show you that I know some German – I doubt if it does so); but I must try and put on paper how good it is to receive a present like yours in the midst of a wilderness of social duties.
I am also going to spoil this letter by some business; your sister has not sent me any work for a long time – I have quite lost count of how many more lessons I owe her. Also I am going to Berlin – so I suggest that she should send the rest of her work to

whom “I can confidently recommend” and I will arrange with him; but if she prefers to go on with me of course I can perfectly work it from Berlin, only the transit will take some time.
