Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Florent Schmitt
Letter No.: VWL384
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
5th June, 1947.
Dear Professor Schmitt
I wrote to your friend, Mr. d’Albert, as soon as your letter arrived, but unfortunately owing to his short stay in England, we were unable to make an appointment, which was a great disappointment to me.1
It was a pleasure to hear from you again after so many years. I remember so well how you came to England many years ago with Maurice Ravel and I took you over London. There was a concert that evening at which your Quintet was performed, a work I have always admired very much.
I do hope that one day we shall have the pleasure of meeting again. Forgive my writing in English, but I have entirely forgotten the little French I ever knew.
Yrs sincerely
R Vaughan Williams
R. VAUGHAN WILLIAMS.
