Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Ernest Irving

Letter No.: VWL3144

The White Gates,
Dorking,
Surrey.

September 28th, 1949.

Dear Irving,

I do not want the horrid little thing myself,1 so either keep it among your archives or put it in the waste paper basket; or ought we, perhaps to return it, because the whole thing was so obviously a political ramp?
You did not enclose the cutting from the “Manchester Guardian”, but never mind, I daresay I can imagine it.
I cannot get on at all with the “Scott” Symphony,2 so it will have to wait a bit, I expect.
Yours sincerely

R. Vaughan Williams
