Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Else Headlam-Morley

Letter No.: VWL4667

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

July 14 [1935]

Dear Lady Headlam-Morley
Please add my signature to the letter – I presume, however, that the titles will not appear as part of the signatures – doubtless this was an error on the part of your typist.1
Yours sincerely
R Vaughan Williams

1. A letter to be sent to the newspapers to canvas support for a portrait of Sir Dan Godfrey, the conductor, to hang in the Pavilion in Bournemouth where Godfrey had been conductor for many years. See VWL4666. The campaign was apparently successful, as a portrait by Henry Lamb was commissioned by Bournemouth Borough Council in 1936 and now hangs in the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum in Bournemouth.
