[14 September 1932]

Dear Bessy

I saw the news in the “Times” this morning.
I was always so glad I had met such a splendid man and fine musician. I shall always remember that delightful visit to Amsterdam & when he came to Dorking last year & played to us so wonderfully.
Adeline sends her love.
Yrs

R. Vaughan Williams

1. This must refer to Julius Röntgen, the Dutch composer and relation of Elizabeth Trevelyan. Notice of his death was given in The Times on 14th September; an obituary by Donald Tovey was published in a later edition on 20th September.
