Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Elizabeth Trevelyan
Letter No.: VWL1528
[Mid March 1941]
Dear Bessy
Many thanks for your encouraging letter.
Also I am glad you liked the article on Walford1 – it had to be written in a hurry after supper to be ready by 8.0 the next morning – & I wasn’t feeling well. So there were some bad misprints – Two of them made nonsense so did not matter – But they printed “beauty of intention” (which is an insult) instead of “beauty of invention”!

1. Sir Walford Davies died on 11 March 1941 – this refers to the article on him by VW in The Spectator on 14 March 1941.
