1. Elizabeth Acland Allen was General Secretary of the National Council of Civil Liberties.
2. VW had been invited to a meeting of the National Council of Civil Liberties on 11th December 1941, held at the Caxton Hall in memory of Henry W. Nevinson, President of the Council. Nevinson was married to Evelyn Sharp, librettist of The Poisoned Kiss.
