Dear Dr Grierson

I have received, with many thanks, your masterly book.1 I admire especially the way you have tackled the difficult places, without hiding anything but without saying anything that might give unnecessary pain. We have now got the “Sea Symphony” episode right – but did I really write “tympani”?!2
Your few friends will doubtless have pointed out one or two slight errors, p.242 Mona Benson was surely RCM not R.A.M.3 p.15 the Mendelssohn Scholarship is nominally open to all British subjects below a specified age – These can easily be corrected in later editions, of which I feel sure there will be many
Yrs sincerely
R Vaughan Williams
