[Late 1922]
Dear Mrs Newton1
I’m afraid I don’t see my way to do anything “original” before the spring – & I think the best one for adapting folk-tunes is old King Cole – but do settle it your selves2
Yrs sincerely
R. Vaughan Williams
P.S. Or if you prefer it “The Dancing Year” which I cd see myself doing.

2. See VWL494 and the letter from Mrs Burnaby quoted in Kennedy, Catalogue of Works p.95 – VW has responded to the idea of a ballet at Cambridge but has asked the organisers to suggest ideas, which had included ‘Old King Cole’.
