Dear Sir,
I am writing to you with reference to the Studio Recitals and Experimental Rehearsals that are held by the Committee for the Promotion of New Music.
Lately, owing no doubt to a number of other musical events taking place in London, we have had very few music critics attending these concerts, and although I realise that there must be a number of larger concerts which you feel it incumbent upon yourself to cover, I should like to ask you most earnestly, whether you could attend at least two or three of these Recitals in a year.
We are virtually the only organisation that consistently performs works by young and unrecognised composers who have not yet had a chance of public hearing, and we feel that your presence is essential in order that the composers may have the benefit of your comments, whether favourable or unfavourable.
I do hope you can see your way to attending some of these Recitals.

Desmond Shawe-Taylor was Music Critic for the New Statesman and Nation (which was
known by that long title from 1931-1964) from 1933 until 1958, when he succeeded
Ernest Newman as chief music critic at the Sunday Times until 1983, with a break from 1973-74 to work as guest critic of the New Yorker. -
