Davie was a Scottish composer. Having received a prize for his piano playing by Harold Samuel at the Glasgow Musical Competitions he won a Caird Scholarship and went to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music. Later he transferred to the Royal College of Music where he was a student of R. O. Morris and VW. He studied later with Kodály and Kilpinen. He taught at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music from 1936 until, in 1945, he went to St Andrew’s University as Master of Music, founding the Department of Music there in 1947 and becoming successively Reader and Professor. He retired in 1978. At the time of this letter his address was 48 Queen’s Drive, Queen’s Park, Glasgow.
