Dear Glover

Thank you very much for your letter.
I have written to the two players you suggest, Mrs. Forrest and Miss Jordan.¹
In engaging professionals I hope you will give first chance to our “Old stalwarts”, – I think I sent you a list of those who were practically essential and those who had often played for us, – before, so to speak, “second strings”. I think your engagements ought to come from these two lists before you go outside, but I am quite glad to have Mrs Pike.
In your letter you mention four amateur horns. Now, I don’t want any amateur horns – they are rather too dangerous. Also we have no horns, as you know, in the “Passion”.
I enclose a letter in answer to my own from Josiah Wedgwood.²

1.  Marjory Jordan, vet to the VW cats.
2.  VW enclosed a letter from his cousin Josiah Wedgwood, apparently in response to a request from VW, saying that he had invited Miss Glover (Cedric Glover’s daughter, Rowena) to lunch at the works and hoping that she would like the North Staffs. Workers Educational Association job; there were quite a few nice people connected with it.
