Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Cecil Armstrong Gibbs
Letter No.: VWL1402
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
October 15 [1938]
Dear Armstrong
M.S. safely received.1
The “reduced” version wd not affect the chorus parts (except that I shd not insist on as many as 100 children & 200 others) – But the orchestra will, I hope, be reduced to a minimum of double w.w. 2 tpts 2 hns 3 tr timp perc & pfte for harp with any additions “to taste”.
I was much touched by your offer to copy – but I would not dream of it – you’ve got your symph to get on with.2 I think I’ve found a copyist.
