Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Birmingham Reference Library

Letter No.: VWL2215

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

April 22 [1951]

Dear Sir

It is most generous of your assistant to offer to copy Mr Gatty’s M.S. – But of course the gift to the EFDS must be his not mine.1
I suggest therefore that he should himself send it to the
Librarian EFDS
Cecil Sharp House
2 Regents Park Row
London NW 1

saying that it is done on my suggestion.

Yours faithfully

R. Vaughan Williams

1. VW apparently had requested that a copy of René Gatty’s manuscript collection of folksongs, in the Birmingham City Archives, be made for the Library of the English Folk Dance Society at Cecil Sharp House (now in the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library there).
