Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Arthur Boosey
Letter No.: VWL4981
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
August 2 [1940]
Dear Mr. Boosey
I have done nothing about the American copyright of “On Wenlock Edge”. I naturally imagined that when I assigned the copyright to you, you would, in your own interests, see to all such matters.
Yours sincerely
R Vaughan Williams

Written in response to a letter from Boosey & Hawkes about the American copyright which had elapsed. On 18 November Boosey’s wrote to say the copyright had indeed lapsed and suggested making some alterations to the text for a new edition in order to engage a new copyright statement. VW replied (see VWL4982) suggesting that the copyright didn’t matter so much unless the performing rights had also lapsed. -
