Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Arthur Benjamin

Letter No.: VWL2356

The White Gates,
Dorking, Surrey.

16th January, 1952

Dear Arthur

I am sorry you cannot see your way to fall in with my suggestion, but I daresay you are right.1
I should love to see you down here, but I often come to London where there will be a better piano, so if you can make arrangements I should love to come and hear you play through your work to your friends.  But this need not prevent you coming and calling on me one day when you are in the neighbourhood.
Yrs
R Vaughan Williams

(R. Vaughan Williams).

Arthur Benjamin, Esq.,
3, Gloucester Gate Mews,
London, N.W.1.

1. Presumably VW’s proposal in VWL2354 to seek funds to do a run-through of Benjamin’s opera A tale of two cities.
