Your self-praise does not predispose me to go out of my way study your work.
But I am always anxious to help young musicians however badly they put their own case. But before I go any further I must have the testimony of some musician whose judgement I can trust that I shall not be wasting my time in looking at your score.

1.  Note on envelope in Cordelia Curle’s’s hand: ‘Ralph’s letter to young musician which he hadn’t meant to send’. The draft is written on the back of a letter from AVW to Cordelia Curle, and was perhaps never sent. AVW’s letter says ‘He has his arrangements of carols for Iceland to occupy him.’
