Dearest Alice
It was sweet of you to send those cards & tell me all about it – and I was much interested in spotting all the people I know in the photographs. It all made me feel almost as if I was there. But I cdnt spot the prettiest Girl in Gloucester in any of them
I hear praise of John’s1 conducting on all sides. I do hope he is not too tired
very much love from
RVW
1. Amongst other works Herbert Sumsion (known as John) had conducted Elgar’s The Kingdom. See Anthony Boden, Three Choirs: a history of the festival (Stroud 1992), pp.182-3.
