1. Presumably a request from the university to perform The Pilgrim’s Progress, Catalogue of Works 1951/1, with reduced forces. This may have arisen following the VW’s visit to Santa Barbara the previous October, when they had heard a performance of Riders to the Sea accompanied by a piano.
