Dear Frank,

You may possibly know that I am President of the Society for the Promotion of New Music. I understand that they have requested you to sponsor one of their Studio Recitals; may I second their request? I think they are doing very good work. Of course a lot of rubbish passes through our hands, but as A. P. Herbert’s Topsy says of her amourous entanglements “It is all a question of trial and error, and the more the trial the less the risk of error.”¹
