Nicolas Nabokov had written to Oxford University Press asking for choral arrangements of Sea Shanties by VW, to be performed at the International Festival of Contemporary Music, under the auspices of the Congress for Cultural Freedom. Alan Frank had written to VW to check that VW had not made a series of such arrangements or was intending to do so.
