Lyle Dowling, the OUP’s agent in America, had sent a telegram on 3rd May: ‘League of composers  strongly desires to give what is called here testimonial dinner on Vaughan Williams birthday Tuesday twelve October stop we strongly urge this stop all precautions would be taken to make everything easy for him’. VWL2818 appears to be the enclosed letter.
