Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Adrian Boult
Letter No.: VWL3071
From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.
March 27th 1955
Dear Adrian,
I am sorry but I have decided never again to enter publicly into politics. When I have done so in the past I have always regretted it. I return the documents herewith.1
Yrs
R. Vaughan Williams
1. Boult was on a committee charged with deciding (with London County Council) whether or not a new Queen’s Hall should be built on the original site. See Daily Telegraph 26 April 1955, p.11. Leading musicians were invited to appear before the committee, and Boult may have looked for support from VW. Or this might relate to a concert in aid of the Federal Education and Research Trust – see R.V.W.: a biography, p.361.
